The Cream Of Tank Girl: Alan Martin and artist Jamie Hewlett created Tank Girl in 1988 for Deadline magazine. Their anarchic heroine is now a cult icon which has produced 41 strips, 8 monthly comics, 6 graphic novels, one prose novel, and a Hollywood movie! Now, from the depths of the outback she sits astride her fabulous tank to celebrate her 20th anniversary with this hardback, collector’s edition of everything Tank Girl. It also includes unseen artwork and exclusive new commentary.

Visions Of Booga: Hot British artist Rufus Dayglo joins Alan Martin for a riotous new tale about Tank Girl. Following a bungled train heist and a shoot out in an outback petrol station, Tank Girl and Booga (the kangaroo) go on the run with the only copy of the great lost ‘Book of Hipster Gold’, which just happens to hold the secret to ending all wars and suffering. With Mafia dons, henchmen, a crooked cop and half the Australian constabulary hot on their tails, it’s one long frenzied chase to the sanctuary of Booga’s long-lost little brother’s vast business empire – and maybe world peace.

All Orders must be placed before 12pm on Friday 7th November 2008

booga boots

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Just bought these. Right up until now I was completely unaware of their existence. A lot of different clothing lines were brought out to cash in on the “success” of the Tank Girl movie - Shelley’s shoes did their version of TG’s biker boots and a take on a more Dr Martens-ish type boot. But these (also by Shelley’s) went totally under my radar, because I’m damned sure I’d have wanted a free pair at the time. They’re a sort of sawn-off biker boot crossed with classic Blundstones Chelsea boots. Anyway, there can’t be many pairs left in the world.

Only a fiver and my size to boot!

Signing at 2000ad Booth at Birmingham International Comics Festival

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

Yup…

On Saturday 4th of October, from 11am til 12:30pm, Alan and I’ll be signing, sketching and staring into space at the 2000ad booth at the Birmingham Comics Festivities.

If you’re to sensible to be up that early, panic not, we’ll be giving a talk (IE – rambling bollox) on Sunday at 1:30pm in the Theatre, and then signing/sketching at 2:15pm til we get bored, or a better offer.

Looking forward to meeting some of you peoples.

A page rough…

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

Here’s the rough for an upcoming Tank Girl page…

I draw my roughs both on the script, and in a sketch book, then scan them, and resize panels so they all fit ok.

I usually work in batches of 2 or 3 pages, that way I can alternate, when I get stuck or bored!

Megazine #277 Cover

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

I thought people may like to see the upcoming Cover with all the gubbins attached.

Simon, 2000ad’s Designer, very kindly let me play with the Dredd logo and put some colour burn, etc on it, to bring the Booga Totem pole forward, in front of the logo.

This will be the cover for Episode #3, and I’m just finishing the art for Episode #4.

How NOT to draw a panel…

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

I drew this top panel late at night… and was shocked at quite how bad it was… I knew it wasn’t right when i drew it, but was tired and couldn’t think how to fix it.

So I simplified it, and added the closeup…

Sometimes coming back to things the next day instead of slogging away at something is the best approach.

Right… back to work…

the return of student fridge sausage man

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

Just wrapping up the finer points of the remastered edition of Tank Girl Book #2. Back in the day Jamie and I were asked to produce some pages for the Comic Relief comic anthology, where we were given a vague scenario (that led on from someone else’s pages) and had to fill in the gaps using famous comedy types of the day. Our comedians were Dawn French and Ben Elton. I had a twisted notion that Mr. Elton only ever cracked jokes about sausages in students’ fridges (probably from watching too much Young Ones and his stand-up rants on the UK version of Saturday Night Live). So here he is, Student Fridge Sausage Man. Comic relief have been nice enough to let us reprint the pages in the new Book #2, which should be in the shops by the end of November.

as promised, here’s a few mildly out of focus sneaky peeps at The Cream Of Tank Girl. Due to hit the shops on October 24th (and available for half-price pre-order over at Amazon). Buy lots, I’m sure your Aunt Aggi would love one for Christmas.
