Cover roughs!
Sunday, August 30th, 2009Here’s a bunch of cover ideas that were proposed for the Second Issue of Tank Girl – Skidmarks, and worked through until we found one that both Alan and I were happy with…
These are all tiny thumbnail sketches..usually only a few inches across so very very rough!!
And a more cleaned up rough for the new cover… This is an a5 sized sketch..

On the first attempt I tried to make it like a 60s comic..with a split panel cover..The young Tank Girl in her big school fight..and Dee Dee Ramone introduced more robustly.. with the tank zipping up the middle too separate the panels out.
Alan wasn’t too excited by this.. and proposed I simplify it and ad in heads in the BG..

But I didn’t like this version myself!
so..I tried again..

This time having TG facing her tormentors, with a 60sstyle montage of Jet Girl/Dee Dee/Booga in the BG.. as Alan pointed out..’err..it’s kind of busy isn’t it?’
Then my son Fin came to the rescue..and suggested just having Tankie pointing her catapult at the reader..

Alan agreed.. and so I was sacked.. and replaced as artist on Tank Girl by a young child..
Art is a fickle and cut throat business…
thanks Fin..x x x

Blur: The Wassailing Song – single 1992
Tuesday, August 11th, 2009The Wassailing Song by Blur. Apparently this is the rarest, most sought after indie single, ever! Only 500 copies pressed and given away free after a Christmas show in 1992, not many survived. It’s a one-sided 7 inch, featuring a traditional Wassail, the only Blur release to feature all four band members singing. My copy still has the pass for the after show party at Maison Rouge stuck on the front.

I’m going to auction this single to benefit a friends charity, but I thought I would post it here first to see if anyone wanted to make me a ridiculous offer for it.

Johnny Remember Me
Monday, August 10th, 2009Out now is the third (and final – by me and Jamie, at least) book in the Tank Girl (ahem) “Remastered” series. Featuring a whole bunch of long lost pages and strips, including the 9-page Booga epic “Antidisestablishmentarianism” (incidentally, the longest one-word comic title, ever) which hasn’t seen print since 1995.

Worth the cover price alone is this fabulous picture of Hewlett & Martin on the cusp of tripping over the cliff that leads to Hollywood…

and this rarely seen illustration of Tank Girl holding two water bombs made out of rubber johnnies.
