This has got to be the best version of The Who’s first mini-rock-opera. Kept out of public view since it’s 1968 debut on The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus. But now it’s ours to keep.

I love the bit where they sing “cello cello cello” because they couldn’t afford real cellos on the original recording.

From the fab (and mystifyingly unreleased on dvd) 1967 mod mash-up SMASHING TIME, this is LYNN REDGRAVE gloriously spoofing the current fashions as YVONNE, the manufactured flavour of the month. I love Small Faces/Cream lookey-likey guitar section and the instant-rise-to-fame montage. Priceless throwaway stuff.
